Debrah’s Journey

Who kept you motivated during your time as an SPSFNWA scholarship recipient?

  • During my time as a scholarship recipient, my main motivation was my children. They inspire me to better myself for not only them but for myself as well.

Tell us about your family.

  • I have two daughters, Kayley (7) and Bella (18). At the moment Kayley wants to be a firefighter so she can slide down the fireman’s pole, and Bella wants to work for John Deere Tractor.

What was the most beneficial part of being a SPSFNWA scholarship recipient?

  • SPSFNWA has helped me get my certificates without having to worry about the cost. As a single parent it is hard to find extra money when things are tight and when life gets hard. In the past I have wanted to pursue a new career but not having the funds had held me back. I am very grateful for the opportunity I have been given with this great program.

How has your pursuit of an education influenced your daughters?

  • As Bella has watched me pursue my education, she has realized how truly important it is. She did not originally want to pursue any higher education after high school, but recently changed her mind. Together we visited Crowder College in Neosho and she has enrolled. She is pursuing a career in Agriculture Business. Her plan is to receive an associate’s degree through Crowder and eventually transfer to the University of Arkansas for her Bachelors!

What advice would you give someone desiring to go back to school?

  • “Never give up. You are in control of what you do. Do it Big and Do it Proud!”
